What makes Christianity different?

If Christians are correct that their world view is the truth, then, logically, there must be unique aspects to this world view that sets it apart from all other world views.  If the Christian religion is fundamentally the same as every other religion, then it has no more of a claim to be the truth than any of the others that also claim to have the truth.  So what sets Christianity apart from every other religion?

A defining difference between Christianity and other religions is that all other religions are based on self effort.  You have to earn your salvation.  You have to make regular offerings to the gods, pray and visit the temple or mosque, bow towards Mecca, fast from sunrise to sunset, turn the prayer wheel or make sure your good karma outweighs your bad karma so that in the next incarnation you’ll be better off!  It is all about making sure that you please the god that you worship.  Only in Christianity is there no requirement to please God.  In fact, it is impossible for us to please God.  We can’t do it.  That is why God sent his Son; to reconcile us to himself and provide for us a salvation that is independent of self effort.  Salvation cannot be earned in Christianity.  It is a gift.  It has nothing to do with visiting a church, baptism, praying, or fasting.  It is a concept unique to Christianity.

Here is a summary list of some of the differences that make Christianity unique among the world's belief systems

Other Religions
Christianity
Man has to reach out to god. God reaches down to man
Sacrifices of some kind, either physical or behavioural, are offered to the god being worshipped. God offered a sacrifice for us. The sacrifice he offered was his Son.
The god worshipped is distant, too holy to be known, often disinterested and needs to be appeased. God is personal, wants intimacy with us and uniquely we can call him 'Father'.
Salvation must be earned. Salvation cannot be earned. It is a gift
Our own self effort and righteousness pleases god. Our own self effort and righteousness never pleases God. That is why he had to provide another way; his Son.
The god worshipped is always external to the believer. God takes up residence inside the believer.
There is a passivity and fatalism about the way their god interacts with them. Whatever happens is 'the will of god'. God is always on the side of believer and helping them in whatever way he can. Evil is not part of God's will for us.
External observances are more important than heart attitude. Heart attitude is more important than external observances.
The god worshipped is made in man's image. The god is a projection or transference of what man thinks the god should be. The god is constrained to our three dimensional understanding. God is presented as multidimensional; a complex interaction of three beings, dimensionally unlimited, who are both distinct and one at the same time! Not a tri-theism but a tri-unity or trinity. A contradiction to our 3D understanding.
The gods worshipped have the capability of doing evil. God is incapable of doing evil.
The body is considered inferior to the soul and spirit. The body is considered equal to the soul and spirit; a trinitarian unity that is temporarily separated by death.
Worshipping the god is about the completion of a set of rules. Worshipping God is about relationship.
The gods are capable of love, of providing a way, of speaking truth. God is love, God is the way. God is the truth. God is life.

Christianity is fundamentally different from every other religion. WIth the exception of Judaism, the God Christians believe in is not the god that all other religions believe in and even Judaism has only a partial understanding of God. Christianity is not just another choice among equal choices. It is not even the first among equals. It is in a class of its own. It is not an arrogant or presumptuous claim, it is simply a logical deduction based on presented facts. Christianity is the only consistently logical and liveable world view. It takes too much faith to believe anything else! That is why the Apostle Peter said, "Salvation is to be found in Him (Jesus) alone. For in the world there is no one else who God has given who can save us" Acts 4:12.

Jesus is alive. He is a healer. He wants to begin a relationship with you. Each of us has a 'glove shaped compartment' in our hearts that only God's hand can fill. He wants to complete you, both figuratively and literally. If you want to know how to become a Christian click here
