Want to become a Christian?

Becoming a Christian is simple but should not be taken lightly. It is not a flavour of the month that you try and discard. It is a serious decision that has even more serious consequences should you change your mind later on. You cannot be a Christian and a Muslim or Buddhist or Hindu at the same time.

To become a Christian you need to do the following:

(A) Admit to God that you are a sinner and that your sin stands as a barrier to relationship with him and that there is nothing you can do to please God to lessen the effect of this sin. Sin is anything that breaks intimacy with God and others. Here are examples of obvious sins :

Violence,  Murder, Hatred, Greed, Lust, Gluttony, Lies, Hatred, Theft, Jealousy, Envy, Blasphemy, Unrighteous  Anger, Fornication, Adultery,   Dishonouring Parents, Arrogance, Disobedience, Words of curse, Involvement in the Occult, Betrayal, Breaking Promises, Not keeping the Sabbath holy by resting, Homosexuality, Drunkenness, Addictions (gambling, drugs etc), Selfishness, Laziness, Gossip, Resentment,              Bitterness, Revenge, Pride, Haughtiness, Avoidance, Self Justification.

Scripture: "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" Romans 3:23

(B) Acknowledge that it is only through Jesus and his death on the Cross that God can forgive you for all the sins you have committed. On the cross Jesus paid the penalty for your sin. Without Jesus standing the gap on your behalf, you would be eternally separated from God.

Scripture: "All we like sheep have gone astray and each of us has turned to his own way and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all" Isaiah 53:6

Scripture: "For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" Rom 6:23

(C) Confess to God as many sins as you recognize from the list above and any others you can think of and ask for his forgiveness and to be cleansed with his precious blood.

Scripture: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" 1 John 1:9

(D) Invite Jesus to come take up 'residence' in you. At the instant you make this request Jesus, through the presence of the Holy Spirit, will supernaturally and simultaneously occupy every cell in your body. He will transform your spirit, which was previously dead to the things of God and make it alive. You may notice a peace that comes over you at the instant you invite Jesus to come in. You may not. Whether or not you notice any tangible change is not important. If you are genuine in asking Jesus into your life, he will come in.

Scripture: "If any person is in Christ, they are a new creation, the old has gone, behold, the new has come!" 2 Corinthians 5:17

Scripture: "Know this, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come into him and eat with him and he with me" Revelation 3:20
